My friend and mentorProfessor Randy Pausch(1960-2008) was a virtual reality pioneer, human-computer interaction
researcher, co-founder of CMU's Entertainment Technology Center, and creator of the Alice software project.
I
have known Randy since 1992, and over the years I have been collecting and
archiving his video lectures and newspaper articles, which I am happy to share below. See
also Randy Pausch's Wikipedia page, as well as Tom Dermody's beautiful song
about Randy called Once Upon a Time.ABC ran a 1-hour special on Randy (with Diane Sawyer) on April 9, 2008. Randy's book, called "The Last Lecture", was published by Disney/Hyperion in April, 2008.
Randy has appeared in the recent Star Trek Movie in a beautifully touching context, insightfully explained by our colleague Kirk Martini.

Light a Light
for Randy: Be a Part of Randy Pausch’s Legacy
Professor Randy Pausch inspired
millions through his work and “Last Lecture,” including the tens of thousands
of individuals like you who purchased a DVD of his lecture.
In celebration of his life and legacy, Carnegie Mellon University dedicated the Randy Pausch Memorial Bridge in his honor on Oct. 30, 2009. We’re asking Randy’s supporters to help his legacy “shine on” through a small gift in his memory. With a $25 donation you’ll help light the bridge in honor of Randy. Lit by 7,000 energy-efficient LED lights, the Pausch Bridge delivers a powerful light show that will be a constant reminder of Randy’s commitment to combining the arts and technology in his work. Connecting Randy’s home at the School of Computer Science with one of the university’s fine arts buildings, the Pausch Bridge is a moving tribute to the late Carnegie Mellon alumnus and professor who continues to inspire millions to live life to its fullest, no matter their challenges. Or consider a donation of $100 or more. Through this meaningful gift, you’ll also be recognized as a Pausch Penguin – a tribute to Randy’s message to students encouraging risk-taking in pursuit of knowledge. Randy reminded students that even in dangerous waters, one penguin had to be brave enough to take the first dive. The design of the Pausch Bridge, with its abstract penguin cut-outs, pays tribute to all the “penguins” of the world. Visit www.cmu.edu/give and give $25 or $100 today to support The Randy Pausch Memorial Bridge.
